- Tankless Water Heater
Also known as the on-demand water heater, this heater implements intense heat flashes on coils that are filled with water. This heats the water quickly, and provides as much as needed. Tankless water heaters are certainly more efficient than their conventional counterparts, but they can be costly initially. However, the costs are leveled out within a month or so due to their mechanism— especially if you live in a large home with a lot of people. This would allow them all to get hot water whenever they need. But keep in mind that these heaters require your home’s electrical system to be upgraded, if you buy an electric tankless water heater. They also should be de-scaled at least once a year so they can function efficiently.
- Solar Water Heater
The solar panels for this heater are usually mounted on the roof so they can absorb the sun’s heat. This heat is transferred through an antifreeze type fluid in a closed loop system, which goes to the water tank, and that heats the water. Usually best for homes that are located in warmer, sunny regions, these systems work great, but the problem with solar water heater is that homeowners can suffer if it gets cloudy or cold. In this case, they also need to have a backup system; otherwise they could run out of hot water. However, if weather is not issue, then homeowners can make use of this system for a long time.
- Condensing Water Heater
A condensing water heater works well if you need more capacity for water, around 55 gallons. These models work like conventional water heaters, but they capture the hot gases that exit from the flue and use those to heat the water in the tank. The gases are transferred through a coil at the base of the heater, where the cold water takes in the heat and becomes warm. Quite an efficient system, this heater is used for commercial and residential properties.
